Frequently Asked Questions

The planned soil data API: what it returns and how to get access.

Is the soil data API available now?

Not yet. We're collecting early-access requests to decide what to build first. Join the list with your use case and expected volume; nothing is charged.

What data will the API return?

The plan is the same USDA SSURGO data behind our reports: map unit, components, drainage class, hydric rating, hydrologic soil group, flooding and ponding, water table and bedrock depth, soil horizons and NRCS engineering ratings, by address or by latitude and longitude.

Why not call USDA Soil Data Access directly?

You can: Soil Data Access is free and public. It takes SQL across several SSURGO tables, spatial queries and parsing. The API is meant to handle geocoding, querying, caching and normalizing into one clean JSON response.

How will the API be priced?

Pricing isn't set. Tell us your expected monthly volume on the form and we'll share plans with early-access users first.

This report is based on USDA-NRCS SSURGO regional soil-survey data and is intended for preliminary screening only. It is not a geotechnical investigation, soil boring report, environmental assessment, or permit approval.
